How do I link to a web-based e-footer using Outlook?
The following article explains how to link to an image file that has been uploaded to a web server from within Outlook for use as an email footer. Before proceeding, please ensure that you have already received a copy of the web-based e-footer via email from Zighead Communications.
IMPORTANT: If you are re-distributing an e-footer sent to you from Zighead Communications to other email users within your company or organization, please ensure that you are not using Microsoft Word as your email editor when forwarding the e-footer. To ensure against this, click on the 'Tools' menu in Outlook and select 'Options'. Click the 'Mail Format' tab and clear the checkboxes in the 'Message Format' section. Once you have forwarded the e-footer, you can reset this option if you wish.
The following instructions are based on Microsoft Outlook 2003, but can be applied to older versions of Microsoft Outlook as well.
To link to a web-based image for use with your Outlook email signature, follow these steps:
- Open the email message which contains a copy of the e-footer.
- Click and drag your mouse over the ENTIRE e-footer, including the text portion. It should appear as below:

- Copy (Ctrl-C) the highlighted area and close the email message.
- In the main Outlook window, click the 'Tools' menu, select 'Options' then select the 'Mail Format' tab:

- Click the 'Signatures' button and create a 'New' signature.
- Enter the name for your new signature and select 'Start with a blank signature'.
